The City of McLouth, Kansas is accepting applications for a Full-Time Maintenance/Utility Worker.
General Statement of Duties
The role of Maintenance/Utility Worker is responsible for assisting with the inspection and maintenance of all public facilities and ensuring that all City operated utilities and services are safe and efficient for the citizens of McLouth. The Maintenance/Utility Worker is supervised primarily by the Utilities Superintendent/City Administrator.
Minimum Requirements
- 18 years of age;
- Valid driver’s license;
- High school diploma or equivalent or greater;
- No criminal history of crimes of moral turpitude or crimes showing disrespect for laws;
- No lengthy traffic violation record;
- Ability to pass a background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Work experience maintaining gas, water and sewer lines.
- Natural Gas Pipeline Operator Qualifications
- KDHE Class II Water Certification
- Class I Waste-Water Certification
- Knowledge of all safety requirements.
- Mathematical aptitude.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate line locators, gas leak survey equipment, odorometer and other related equipment.
Salary/wage
- Hourly Wage: $15.00 to $30.00 per hour.

- Dependent on experience and qualifications.

Remote Work
On-Call Requirement
- The McLouth Gas System requires 24-hour response for service. Employee must be available to be on-call, alternating weeks, with Utility Superintendent.

- Maintenance/Utility Workers will receive training and experience, fostering practical skills and hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing utilities, mechanical infrastructure, construction, along with additional maintenance opportunities and assistance with certification.
Examples of Work Tasks
The Maintenance/Utility Worker will be supervised by, and work closely with, the Utilities Superintendent/City Administrator to perform necessary tasks, including, but not limited to:
- Installation, operation, repair, inspection and maintenance of water, sewer and gas lines.
- Operation, maintenance, repair, inspection, and testing of the natural gas distribution system.
- Installation, maintenance, repair, signage, and marking of all public streets and sidewalks.
- Perform custodial work, such as snow and ice removal, debris removal, cleaning, and drainage.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from citizens, when necessary.
- Assist with meter reading, field repairs, and other related duties.
- Physical labor, including hand digging, heavy lifting, working with asphalt, getting in and out of ditches and confined spaces, etc.
- Maintain accurate records and reports.
